Health Care Career Opportunities
The demand for health care providers to focus on health care quality and patient
safety means that a small investment in a degree in patient safety leadership
can pay off with career advancement, new opportunities and a higher
salary.
(ARA) – Is your health care career--and your salary--in a rut?
There’s good news. The demand for health care providers to focus on health care
quality and patient safety means that a small investment in a degree in patient
safety leadership can pay off with career advancement, new opportunities and a
higher salary.
In 2000, the Institute of Medicine reported that an
estimated 98,000 patients die each year in hospitals from preventable medical
errors. This has led health care providers, both clinical and administrative, to
start programs that focus on optimal patient outcomes.
If your health
care career and salary need a jumpstart, but you don’t have a background in
patient safety or health care quality, there is an easy and affordable way to
advance your education. The College of Medicine University of Illinois at
Chicago has developed an online Master of Science in
Patient Safety Leadership (PSL) program. The program is designed for both
clinical and non-clinical health care professionals interested in taking health
care quality and patient care services to a higher level of excellence.
“The mission of the PSL program is to provide learners with the capacity
to obtain career success in their health care-related field and to facilitate
dynamic educational opportunities in a learner-centered environment for those
who wish to become leaders in the quest for patient safety and the delivery of
quality health care,” says Anne Gunderson, director for PSL programs at the
University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago.
Enrolling
in the University of Illinois’ PSL program through
their online global campus puts you into a “virtual community” of students in
the program who you can work with and turn to for support. Each course is 8
weeks long and you can complete your degree in as few as 18 months. Scholarships
and financial aid are available.
